Font Analysis

Fonts and Typefaces play a very important part in title sequences and posters. They indicate to the audience what type of genre the movie is or what it may be about. There are a wide range of fonts; from fancy to foreign, from techno to bitmap, from gothic to script and so on. The most common type of typefaces are called Serif and Sans Serif. Serif characters are when they have a small stroke drawn across and out of the letter, a popular font for an example is 'Times New Roman'. As for the Sans Serif characters, 'Sans' means 'without' or 'no' small stroke drawn across and out of the letter; a popular font for an example is 'Arial'.

The movie poster for ROCKY is Sans Serif typeface. I believe the font has fit its purpose in presenting the poster as the font is big, bold and strong - like the main character who is a boxer. Movie posters which use a Serif type of font may indicate formal, olden, times or even superior/high class.
